Up to another nice day around 7.30am and had a couple of
cups of tea with Mary before sitting down to breakfast. There is a big music
festival about five miles up the road this weekend, called Latitude, with some
major acts apparently, so consequently the roads are pretty busy around here.
Not affecting us though and after something to eat Julia and I wandered through
the park into the town to do the shopping at the Co-op, which I must say, was
very well stocked.

It’s been great being back on English soil, if only to
browse the shelves and see the names of foods from my youth.
Fray Bentos canned pies, Club biscuits, the list went on.
Whilst Ju was busy getting what was needed, I was thinking about Pork pies and
H.P. sauce. Unfortunately, we forgot to pick up a Guardian paper, which meant
another trip, but also allowed us the chance to see a little more of the town.
aaahhh, the taste of England ! |
With washing drying on the line in the very warm sunshine, we sat with Mary in
her small courtyard in the back, just chatting about everything. At around 4.30pm, her friend and helper, Joy
arrived. She had been to a wedding and had cycled over to meet us, having heard
we are fellow cyclists. Joy, who is an extremely youthful seventy years of age,
began cycle touring at age thirty eight and has covered a lot of kms over the
years. She too, like us is riding a Trek bike. Chatted for a couple of hours
before her friend Jane came to pick her up to go to a concert by Windbourne, a
Canadian folk group.
No sooner had Joy departed, Andrew, Mary and Bryan’s son and
his partner Trish, arrived for dinner. Whilst Ju, Andrew and I, busied
ourselves in the kitchen, the others sat and chatted, before we all sat down to
a delicious meal, followed by a nice dessert. Andrew and Trish both work for the
same company and live in Norwich, about forty minutes drive away. We enjoyed
fine food and conversation until around 10pm when they had to leave. Watched a
bit of the British Open on tele before calling it a day and crashing. Tomorrow
is our last day here before we push on across England, heading North West.
Looking good Pete - you can't beat a pork pie, can you?
